84 and alone in New York

Today while working at the store, I saw some hullabaloo outside. A woman had tripped over a stone and fallen backwards, hitting her head on the sidewalk. Our store was the closest place for her to come. She was helped by three young women to the store. She looked shaken. She was 84 years old and the back of her head was bleeding. One of the blonde women went and got some ice from the grocers down the street. We got her water, a chair and tissues to absorb the blood. The lady had been grocery shopping and had her bag of groceries with her. She was conscious and awake and thankful to the young women for helping her. One of the woman traded stocks on Wall Street. A man dressed in black and yellow skin tight cycling gear said he was calling 911. 14 minutes later, nothing had happened. My previous experience with 911 was that they are very efficient and come within a few minutes. I decided to call 911 myself and ask for an ambulance before it was too late. The banker lady was arrogant and rudely said why are you calling, the cyclist has already called, but I went ahead and called, didnt want the old lady bleeding to death.
The paramedics asked for details-the location, what happened, what state and age the lady was in. A fire engine appeared in a few minutes, with it's loud ringing siren, with 6 fire men coming out and into the store. In the middle of all this, the UPS guy was picking up boxes from the front of the store, and customers were coming in and out. Soon the ambulance arrived, wrapped the lady’s head in a bandage, and put her on a stretcher and took her to the closest hospital.
The woman was 84 years old, and all alone. The women asked her if she would like to call someone she knew to come pick her up, and she was silent.
