Natural Radiance
Natural Radiance awakening to your great perfection by Lama Surya Das
This is a hands on book by LSD, it includes a CD with instructions for meditation practise.
It follows the Dzogchen tradition. Which is a secret teaching since this teaching is the direct route to enlightenment. It is part of the Vajrayana tradition and the Tantric path of Buddhism.
Emaho meaning fantastic, joy and wonder of discovering within ourselves and our world our natural state through our own eyes.
Dzogchen consists of three parts
view (outlook)
meditation (practise)
action or conduct (embodiment in life)
dzogchen is often taught through pith instructions such as
Just as it is
let go and let be
what we seek, we are
leave it as it is, and rest your weary mind.
Natural meditation is a process of recognizing our true nature in every moment, not just by crossing our legs and paying attention to our breath, but by deep penetrating insight and discrimination awareness that discerns the true nature of things as they are.
AH mantra is a big exhalation with the mantra Ah, it is called sky breath.
Rushen is subtle discernment through self inquiry and exhausting karmic conditioning. We can discern the true nature of heart and mind and introduce ourselves to who we really are. It is a naked awareness practise to introduce us to innate awareness our primordial Buddha mind.
Trekchod is the central practise of dzogchen teaching. It means seeing through, cutting through duality, seeing through outward empty appearances and perceptions. The process is to realize the empathy luminous groundless ground of being, the presence of total naked awareness or rigpa (pure presence). Tibetans call it sky gazing meditation or sky yoga. Just being.
sky gazing
is the practical application of Dzogchen mediation. It teaches us to relax and let go, and be in the natural state of being. Innate wakefulness unfurls and reveals itself. Our small, narrow, egoistical, dualistic minds are transformed into non dual, sky life infinite Buddha mind while mediating on our natural wisdom mind and innate wakefulness. The 3 stages are arriving, intensifying and allowing.
HUNG mantra
Chanting utilizes sacred sound as a transformative device. Mind body contemplative practise that opens and stimulate both sides of the brain. A complete Vajrayana practise can be created by chanting, breath awareness and visualizations that can awaken and liberate body speech and mind.
Significance of Tibetan HUNG Mantra is that it is a seed symbol of wisdom. The five wisdoms are spacious clarity wisdom, mirror like wisdom, discriminating wisdom, all-equalizing wisdom and all-accomplishing wisdom.
Togal mediation is the best way to develop stability in the Trekchod view (nature of mind). In Togal the meditater endeavors to give rise to subtle visions or meditational experiences, through which trekchod practise of cutting through becomes stronger, sharper and deeper. In Togal we perceive the clear light nature of the mind and its manifestations as energy and forms. It results in the rainbow light body of perfect enlightenment radiating in all directions. Dedicating merit at the end of the practise is to share the blessings and to acknowledge the profound interconnectedness of all things, and the realization that none of us are truly free until all of us are free.
A quote by Dudjom Rinpoche
As for view, mediation, action and their fruit:
Make freedom from aversion and attachment your view,
Make destruction of grasping intellectualization your mediation,
Let freedom from craving and contrived deeds be your conduct,
Let your fruit be the abandonment of the wish to attain anything
And thus realize the Dharmakaya which is spontaneously within.
