Letters - The Lessons of the Good Teacher - NYTimes.com: "Teaching is truly the noblest of all professions. As Ms. Engel suggests, teachers do have profound influence on their students as well as on one another.
The 21st-century teacher guides his or her students through exciting learning adventures and discoveries, while at the same time learning a great deal from them. The interdependent relationship between teaching and learning is a priceless labor of love and a joy that must be experienced to be believed.
Ms. Engel says a lot when she concludes, “Show me a school where teachers are smart, well-educated, skilled and happy to be there, and I’ll show you a group of children who are getting a good education.” To this I would add, Show me a teacher who actively pursues through love the art of learning, and I’ll show you a teacher who will never burn out of the teaching profession.
